Podcast October 14, 2012 #FatAnchor #VickPuppy #SpaceJump #Uppercut

We have a brand new format: one kickass hot topic sandwiched between Sum of this/ None of that and Yeah x5! This week’s discussions centered around obesity and public figures. We spoke about the CBS news anchor’s response to “hate mail attacking her weight and deeming her an unfit role model. Naturally Shannon defended the asshole who wrote the letter and Mike thought he was out of line…but wait it doesn’t just end there with the usual rhetoric WE HAVE A GUEST! Sasha from Flaws of Couture, an advocate for full figured women, came to give her two cents, also Adam from the popular YouTube channel Adam Won’t Lose, explained why he is weary of  the plus-size movement.

We also discuss the SPACE JUMP!! Well, Mike discusses the Space Jump… We tackle the Cleveland bus uppercut, anonymity on the net, Michael Vick’s new puppy and Shannon announces her latest crush (cue the schoolyard giggles).

If you want to be all in the know before we add our often incorrect assertions in the mix, here’s the rundown…

Sum of This/None of That

1) Michael Vick gets a puppy
2) Reddit & the end of internet anonymity
3) Upscale Wendy’s: is there any point to fast food trying to feign quality

Yeahx5:

Person: TJ Holmes
Reckless: bus driver upper cutting that girl in Cleveland
Lesson: Oral health and overall health have a stronger link than you may think

I LOVE this conversation as I'm studying exercise science in addition to engineering and I've taken a good portion of nutrition classes. Government agencies have identified the range of being "healthy" as Shannon mentioned. There is a malnourished "skinny" and a malnourished "obese". There have been several arguments addressing the concept that the youth of today will not outlive their parents due to their lack of exercise and poor diet. I think at the end of the day it's important to identify what is healthy and push for a healthy lifestyle regardless of age, race, gender, etc. Biology has taught us with evolution humans vary in size and shape due to the vast gradient of variables in the world such as genetics, location, weather, etc. While saying we don't know the anchor's circumstances is valid, I think everyone should care because the science theory Charles Darwin proved as "survival of the fittest" is not to be taken lightly. I most certainly think it's important to identify the parameters by which the situation is evaluated but I think health should be valued in any society regardless of an individual's place in society.
